Installing a Satellite Navigation (SatNav) system in the redbarchetta.

Well, I actually didn’t do it myself but had the supplier to the job. It took them 3 hours to do it due to the fact at first they couldn’t find a way to lead the antenna through the dashboard. Most SatNav’s come with the radio part and a separate computer containing a CD player for the road maps. Mine is a single part system so I do not have a separate computer. This saves a lot a space and I don’t need to find a place to install the computer somewhere out of sight, but still being accessible to switch CD’s.

The installation basicly covers these points:

  1. connecting the pulse wire from the kilometer counter
  2. installing the antenna from the SatNav. Luckily this is just a small square block
  3. connecting the (direction) indicator
  4. pull a new wire from the contact to the radio so that the radio will be switched off when the contact is off. This is really necessary since the SatNav otherwise will drain your battery within 2 days
  5. connecting the reverse pulse. This hasn’t been done on my barchetta since there’s no real point in doing this.

The system knows where it is and where to go to not only by picking up a signal of at least seven satellites, it also uses the kilometer counter to calculate speed and a gyroscope to detect the level of cornering. The indicators will stop the SatNav telling you constantly to make a turn. All this combined provides the SatNav a pretty accurate picture of where the car is at the moment, how far (in steps of 10 meters) it is to the next crossing, when you will arrive at the destination and much more. When TMC mode is on it even can calculate detours in case of traffic jams. The system can always be told to find another way to the destination in case of sudden road blocks or when roads or crossings have been changed since the release of the road map CD.

The greatest benefit of the SatNav is you don’t need to look at the maps any more, just drive and enjoy the scenery, letting the SatNav do the work. A punch and the system will tell you were you actually are, not only the number of the motor way but also which junction you are close to.

If you have any questions just ask Rein Douma

Down here you’ll find a few “randomly” selected adresses... or could it be that they actually have something to do with our barchetta. Are you able to explain them all...??? Mail us the solutions.

Simple for those who have been attending international meetings for a while.

This one is to be found on www.fiatbarchetta.com

Well what can I say?

An easy one in between ...

Another piece of cake

This one may be a bit harder...

You won’t have any trouble finding these locations once you have a satnav system.
